We have had lots of e-mails asking how the
Lili of the Valley Bears are coloured with
copics, so have composed this tutorial for you, hope it helps. I am no expert but this is just the way I have found easiest after
experimenting with different papers and colours.
Before we start there are a couple of points I would like to point out,
Copics bleed very
easily so the paper and ink you use are REALLY important, the ink I have found works best with
Copics is MEMENTO TUXEDO BLACK, you can start to colour immediately after stamping and it does not need heat setting. There are two types of paper suitable for
copics,
Uncoated card (I use SU Whisper White) for a lighter effect to your colouring, and
Canson Manga Art Board for a much bolder colour effect. I have used
SU Whisper White for this tutorial. I also always place a piece of kitchen roll under my paper as the
copics bleed through to the back of the card or paper.
Colouring the Fur on Bears and BunniesBears and Bunnies have a rounded body so you need to give this impression with your colouring, these means leaving the centre of the face and body lighter than the rest of the image, using
Copic Marker
E30 lightly colour the whole of the face and ears

Starting from the edge and working toward the centre add
E31 leaving the centre uncoloured

now add
E33 in the same way leaving a band of E31, then just add
E35 as a very narrow line around the outside edge of the whole head.

Now go over the whole head with
E30 using circular strokes and making sure all the colours are blended, you should be left with your image fully blended as below

The final stage for the head is just to stroke a thin line of E35 over the nose area as below.

The Body arms and legs are coloured in the same way, remembering to keep your shading
consistent as below.

These are the colours I have used on my Bear below are various other colour combinations that I have found work well

These colours give you a more honey coloured bear or bunny

these
colours give a lighter ash colour

and finally these are the colours I use for a grey bear.

Colouring the Bunch of Flowers
I have a confession to make I forgot to take a picture of the first layer I coloured using
YG91, but I think you can see the the difference in the two colours, the wrapping was firstly coloured with G91 leaving the middle completely free of colour, then
YG93 was added over the first layer as below

then
YG95 is added around the edges
YG91 was then applied with circular motion over all the colours until blended

The another coat of
YG91 was lightly applied over the complete wrapping included the uncoloured centre, you can see the effect this method gives the shading below

The three colours used for the wrapping

The flowers and ribbons are coloured in the same way, using the lightest colour first
R81
the medium colour
R83 is added next

and finally the darkest colour is added
R85
As before go over the complete area coloured with the lightest colour
R81
The roses are coloured in the same way with just two colours
BV000 and BV02
and the little
daisys are coloured with
BV000 add
Y17 to the centre of the
daisys.

The final step is adding the lightest green
YG91 in between the flowers. The final image should look like the photo below

The colours used for the flowers

Hope this has been a help to you.
I did intend to do another tutorial on colouring flesh and hair, but the methods outlined above are the same for all
Copic colouring so instead of you having to read it all again I thought it would be better to just show you the colours used for flesh and hair.
E000 is the first colour used all over the face, arms, legs etc, them
E00, Eo1 and outline
E21 these are then all blended with
E000, then just add a small circle of
P20 to the cheek area, the final effect you are looking for is as below

Colours I use for Hair
Brown

Ash
Blonde
If you would like anymore information or help please do not hesitate to ask, as I said I am not a professional in either colouring with
Copics or writing Tutorials
